Council has received various reports of drivers speeding along our beaches, and on our local roads, particularly in the township along Pinks Beach Road and Marine Parade.
Traffic counter speed data captured over the past few weeks confirms that speeding in excess of 60kmh is occurring regularly on our major thoroughfares and excess speeds on our beaches have also been noted.
Drivers are reminded of:
- the 50kmh speed limit along all roads within town limits.
- the statewide default beach speed limit of 40kmh or 25kmh within 50 meters of a person.
We ask all visitors and residents to please help to keep everyone safe, by slowing down, chilling out and enjoying the drive along our beautiful streets and beaches, within the default limits.
Be mindful that it is peak holiday period, children are present, and many people are crossing our roads to the beach and are actively on our beaches. Let’s share the care.
Police have been present at various locations and times and driver’s exceeding limits can expect to be expiated.
As a reminder, Variable Message Sign (VMS) Boards will be in place in the next few weeks to notify drivers of their travelling speed on Marine Parade, in the Wyomi area, and on Pinks Beach Road within the 50kmh zone.
