Main Street Entrance Beautification Project

Kingston Main Street Entrance Beautification Project

Council’s Community Plan 2019-2023 vision aspires Kingston to be a thriving destination that  encourages tourism and lifestyle living through best practice planning of public spaces. The purpose of the Main Street Entrance Beautification Project was to increase the awareness of passing travellers to Kingston’s main street precinct and to draw people into the centre of town.

Council, in partnership with the Department for Infrastructure & Transport (DIT), undertook a concept study of the East Terrace & Agnes Street intersection to understand the future development needs of this intersection, particularly around traffic safety.

The design of the main street entrance upgrade was undertaken to allow for future development of the intersection, in accordance with the concept plans. The design also incorporates indigenous concepts, through coastal plant selection and indigenous (Meintangk) history.

The project was designed to use natural materials of timber and steel to allow statement pieces to weather naturally without the need for ongoing maintenance. Two thousand plants carefully selected and nurtured and made their way into the new entrance garden beds.

The project was an all hands-on deck approach with the entire Works team working collaboratively to level and compact the site, spread the banded mulch and limestone beds.

Council are very proud of this project and the professional, multi-skilled team that have pulled it all together, The Works team were united to quickly and energetically work towards project completion.

This project was fully funded through the Australian Governments Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
