Dredging Update - Cape Jaffa Marina

Published 2nd February 2024

Members of the public are advised that maintenance dredging operations at Cape Jaffa will commence at the marina entrance from Tuesday 6 February 2024.

From Wednesday 7 February 2024, operations will take place up to 24 hours a day, subject to weather conditions.

Mariners entering and exiting the harbour must contact the dredge operator on VHF channel 14 or 77 prior to arrival / departure from the channel to ensure safe navigation.

Mariners are advised to exercise caution when navigating the approach channel. A 4-knot speed limit applies when passing the dredge, dredge equipment or pipeline. For mariners who are unsure how to pass the dredge safely, dredge safety information signs have been erected in the area.

The discharge site is located to the eastern side of the channel/harbour and there will be a presence of heavy machinery at this location. The pump could engage at any time, with the beach footing likely to be soft or irregular and public are advised to remain clear of this immediate area.

The discharge pipeline will trail the dredge and usually rests on the seabed during operations; however, the pipeline may be floated to facilitate dredge movements. In these instances, a SECURITE warning will be issued on VHF channel 16 and 77 and mariners must use additional caution at this time when navigating the area as this may cause temporary passage stoppage.
