Dog Information
Dogs in Public Places
Council has amended the areas within the District where dogs can be exercised on and off leash. The provisions are as follows:
Dogs may be exercised off leash, but must remain under ‘effective control’:
- On Old School Oval - when there is no organised sporting or community events taking place.
- On Gall Park Oval – outside school hours and when there is no organised sporting or community events taking place.
- Between Thredgolds Beach access point and Pinks Beach access point before 9am and after 8pm during Daylight Saving.
- Between Thredgolds Beach access point and Pinks Beach access point at all times when Daylight Savings is not in force.
- The beach and foreshore south of Pinks Beach access point at all times
- The beach and foreshore north of the Jetty at all times
- Maria Creek Reserve (north of Maria Creek) at all times.
Effective control requires the dog owner to:
- Carry a chain or leash
- Keep the dog in sight
- Not allow the dog to rush at or attack another person or animal
- Have effective voice control of the dog and is able to place the dog on the leash immediately if necessary.
Dogs must remain on leash:
- On the beach and foreshore reserve between the Jetty and Thredgolds beach entrance at all times.
- Old School Oval and Gall Park oval when there is organised sporting or community events taking place.
- Between Thredgolds Beach access point and Pinks Beach access point between 9am and 8pm during Daylight Saving.
- On all other reserves, footpaths, parks and public places in the Council area.
Other considerations:
- All dog owners are reminded to clean up after your dog.
- Dog owners are reminded that all dogs must be microchipped.
