Lifetime of Friendship Mosaic

Lifetime of Friendship Mosaic

The Lifetime of Friendship Community Mosaic Project will result in a piece of public art to recognise the contribution to the community of the Kingston Country Women’s Association (CWA). The mosaic and surrounding landscaping will be a visible legacy for former CWA members to admire and instil pride and bring vibrancy to a highly visible Kingston location, through a vivid, dynamic and engaging community art piece.

This is a Council led project, with Council providing project management, community engagement and technical support, however with works being primarily completed by volunteers, this piece of art will foster ownership and pride within the community. The project will provide access to training and the development of new skills. It will also offer the opportunity for those involved to build friendships and reduce social isolation through the comradery that comes from an inclusive and welcoming environment and working towards a shared goal.

The design, location and method of construction of the Lifetime of Friendship Community Mosaic Project have been carefully considered to acknowledge the historical significance of the CWA to Kingston. The project will link Kingston’s history with its future and foster town pride, both in the historical work of the CWA and the art culture that is emerging in Kingston.

The Lifetime of Friendship Community Mosaic Project will be used to bring together different sections of the community in an inclusive, welcoming and skill broadening space, to create a tribute to the Kingston CWA in a format and location that links the old and new and celebrates the past and future of the Kingston community.

Kingston District Council are inviting interested persons to participate in the development of the Lifetime of Friendship mosaic, which will appear on an external wall of the council offices. The mosaic design commemorates the contribution the former Kingston CWA Branch made to the community since 1936. Everyone is welcome to get involved - Kingston residents, visitors, all ages and skill-sets (novice or pro). Come along by yourself, with a friend or in a group and break the COVID isolation barrier.
