Moving Pictures - Augmented Reality Mural

Council will continue its foray into arts & culture thanks to funding from the Regional Tourism Bushfire Recovery Program, an Australian Government bushfire recovery initiative.  In the wake of the Keilira Bushfire which significantly impacted the community, Council applied for the maximum amount of $30,000 to deliver a tourism economic stimulus project, in the form of an innovative public artwork.

Believed to be the first of its kind in South Australia, Council will develop an eye-catching, augmented reality public artwork in Agnes Street, Kingston. The project will capitalise on the growth of both art tourism and the world of augmented reality and we are excited to see this literally come to life.

We’ve engaged Adelaide company JumpGate Virtual Reality to guide the augmented reality component of the project; they share our desire for innovation and are committed to partnering with Council to deliver an outcome that will be an absolute game-changer.

Local business Kingston Electrical & Renovator Centre will donate the canvas for the project, being a large white external wall on the corner of Agnes & Charles Streets.

Council has engaged Maz McGann who developed the Public Art Framework to manage the project.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST - Call Out for a Mural Artist(s)

Artist expressions of interest are now open for this project.  This is a unique opportunity for an experienced mural artist to extend their skills and be part of an amazing project that will see the development of the first augmented reality public artwork in South Australia.

We have teamed up with JumpGateVR to support the development of the AR component and through the project manager, they will facilitate a partnership between the artist and JumpGate.  You do not need to have any specific tech experience working with AR but an understanding of animation would be an advantage.  You must be willing to work collaboratively with Council and JumpGateVR to ensure the final mural design aligns with AR technological requirements and the desired viewing experience is achieved.
